About the app

Your child picks a theme among three moments from their own week: Saturday’s birthday party, Thursday at the pool, a grandparent’s visit. The app writes a French dictation at their level, anywhere from CP to 3e, ages six to fifteen. You read it aloud, they write it with a pen, you correct it together, then you tick what went wrong. That last step takes fifteen seconds, and the next dictation works on what they missed.

Progress is tracked against the French curriculum skill by skill: noun and verb agreement, past participles, homophones, verb endings. Difficulty adjusts itself, so too many mistakes shortens the text and too few makes it denser, while the grade level shown never moves on its own.

The app is explicit about what it does not do. It does not mark the work automatically, it does not photograph the page, and there is no handwriting recognition inventing mistakes from a misread. Texts are written on the device by Apple Intelligence, and the calendar, the family first names and the results are never sent anywhere. There is no account, no advertising and no tracker.

The story

A child writes differently when the dictation is about their birthday rather than the neighbour’s cat, and that is the whole bet the app makes. The harder decision was refusing to automate the correction: a photo of a page and a handwriting model would have been the obvious feature, and it would have invented mistakes the child did not make. Keeping a parent with a red pen in the loop costs fifteen seconds and is the reason the skill tracking can be trusted.

About the developer

Sylvain Corvaisier has been writing native Apple software since the first public iPhone SDK in 2008. He works from Rennes, France, under SAS Corvaisier, and has published 21 apps across 7 platforms, from iPhone and iPad through to Apple Watch, Mac, Apple TV, Android, Fire TV and Roku.
