About the app

DJing Stream turns a Mac into a broadcast chain. A DJ picks an audio input, sets a session end time and starts streaming 24-bit stereo at 44.1 or 48 kHz to any venue or listener, with configurable latency between one and ten seconds and no lossy transcoding in between.

Venues browse the DJs streaming right now, preview any stream free for ten minutes, and make an offer to engage one for the evening. Audio can be routed to the house system over AirPlay, in lossless or LPCM to suit a serious rig.

Video is optional and works both ways: the venue can put the DJ on its screens, and the DJ can see the room. Streaming is billed as pay-as-you-go hours rather than a subscription, with one hour consumed per listener per hour.

Key features

  • 24-bit stereo streaming at 44.1 or 48 kHz with no lossy transcoding
  • Configurable one to ten second latency, packet recovery and jitter handling
  • Venues preview any stream free for ten minutes before making an offer
  • Optional two-way video, so the DJ sees the room and the room sees the DJ
  • Pay-as-you-go streaming hours instead of a subscription

The story

Putting a DJ in a bar means moving a person and their equipment to a room on a specific night. The audio side of that problem is solvable: a Mac already has the encoder, and the network is fast enough. DJing Stream removes the professional transmitter and the streaming server from the chain and leaves the two things that matter, which are the sound quality a venue can actually hear on its own system and a way for the venue and the DJ to agree on a price.
