About the app

Instagram Live, Twitch, YouTube and the usual music services all compress what they send. At Home Concerts does not: the set arrives in lossless 24-bit audio, the same audio leaving the studio, which is audible immediately on decent headphones or a hi-fi.

Access comes from the artist. Sign in with Apple and the concerts you can watch appear automatically, synced across devices. A countdown runs over the event artwork and switches to the live set when the artist starts.

Playback is built to survive a domestic connection: a wifi drop is ridden out and picked up where it left off. When the show ends, the artist can leave a personal message and a link.

The story

An artist who has spent a week getting a mix right watches it get crushed to a lossy stream the moment it goes live to fans. At Home Concerts exists to remove that last step. The trade is deliberate and stated in the app: it is for private listening at home, and re-streaming or public broadcast is not allowed, which is what makes an uncompressed feed something an artist will agree to.

About the developer

Sylvain Corvaisier has been writing native Apple software since the first public iPhone SDK in 2008. He works from Rennes, France, under SAS Corvaisier, and has published 21 apps across 7 platforms, from iPhone and iPad through to Apple Watch, Mac, Apple TV, Android, Fire TV and Roku. Everything is built natively, one platform at a time, with no cross-platform wrapper in between. He also runs Vendredi App, a monthly workshop in Rennes where a working app ships in an afternoon.
