About the app
Live streaming normally needs encoding software plus a streaming server. My Live TV Channel replaces both. It captures video, encodes with the hardware encoder built into every Apple chip, packages broadcast-standard HLS segments and uploads them, all on the Mac. Anyone with a browser or a smart TV can watch.
Segments go wherever you choose: your own site over HTTPS, Amazon S3 with CloudFront, Cloudflare R2, Bunny Storage, or Akamai MSL4. Because you publish to your own infrastructure you set the rules, whether that means free, ticketed, behind a paywall or members only, with no platform cut and no per-gigabyte meter you do not control.
The app encodes 540p, 720p, 1080p and 4K simultaneously so each viewer gets the quality their connection can carry. It also connects to the My TV Channel platform: sign in, pick a channel, tap Go Live, and the broadcast is inserted into a 24/7 channel until you stop.
Key features
- Hardware-accelerated H.264, HEVC and AV1 encoding on Apple silicon
- Adaptive bitrate at 540p, 720p, 1080p and 4K in a single pass
- Publishes to your own site, S3, CloudFront, R2, Bunny Storage or Akamai MSL4
- Smart buffering that adjusts to upload speed and catches up after a drop
- Go Live into a 24/7 My TV Channel, with normal programming resuming after
The story
The standard live-streaming stack asks you to pay a cloud transcoder to redo work your Mac already did, then adds latency doing it. Every Apple chip ships with the same hardware encoder Final Cut Pro uses, and HLS is just files on a web server. My Live TV Channel is what is left when you take that seriously: encode locally, package locally, upload to storage you already pay for, and keep the audience relationship rather than renting it from a platform.
About the developer
Sylvain Corvaisier has been writing native Apple software since the first public iPhone SDK in 2008. He works from Rennes, France, under SAS Corvaisier, and has published 21 apps across 7 platforms, from iPhone and iPad through to Apple Watch, Mac, Apple TV, Android, Fire TV and Roku. Everything is built natively, one platform at a time, with no cross-platform wrapper in between. He also runs Vendredi App, a monthly workshop in Rennes where a working app ships in an afternoon.
