About the app

The app teaches by having you handle real market data rather than sample data. Flash cards cover the concepts, and guides explain what P/E, P/B, RSI, MACD, ROE and thirty-odd other metrics actually mean, in language that assumes no prior finance training.

A built-in filing browser opens real 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K documents from S&P 500 companies, so the numbers being explained can be traced to the page they came from.

Custom screeners let you practise the actual skill: build a filter across valuation, quality, technical and growth metrics and see which companies come back. The app is explicit that it is educational, that data is largely end-of-day, and that it gives no buy or sell recommendations.

The story

Investing apps optimise for the trade, and learning apps use invented data that behaves nothing like a market. Stock Screener sits in between deliberately: real filings, real ratios, no order button. The disclaimers are unusually prominent for a finance app because the product only works if nobody mistakes an education tool for advice.

About the developer

Sylvain Corvaisier has been writing native Apple software since the first public iPhone SDK in 2008. He works from Rennes, France, under SAS Corvaisier, and has published 21 apps across 7 platforms, from iPhone and iPad through to Apple Watch, Mac, Apple TV, Android, Fire TV and Roku. Everything is built natively, one platform at a time, with no cross-platform wrapper in between. He also runs Vendredi App, a monthly workshop in Rennes where a working app ships in an afternoon.
