Smart TV and living-room apps built native where it counts

Native tvOS and Android TV, with honest guidance on Roku, Tizen and webOS.

Native Apple TV and Android TV / Fire TV apps with a real 10-foot UI and proper remote and focus navigation, plus straight advice on the web-based TV platforms. Day rate: €500 or $600.

Every TV platform speaks a different language

Apple TV runs tvOS and Swift, Android TV and Google TV run Kotlin, Fire TV is Android-based but layers on Amazon services and its own store, Roku uses BrightScript, and Samsung Tizen and LG webOS are web platforms. There is no shared SDK that covers all of them. Sylvain focuses native effort on the platforms where it pays off most, tvOS and Android TV / Fire TV, and gives you a clear-eyed read on the rest.

A phone app on a TV feels broken

TV is a 10-foot experience driven by a remote, not a touchscreen. Focus has to move predictably with a D-pad, text has to be readable from the couch, and there is no tap target under a finger. Sylvain builds the navigation around the Apple TV focus engine and Android's D-pad focus model so moving through rows and grids feels native, not like a stretched mobile screen.

Native where it matters, honest about the rest

tvOS and Android TV / Fire TV cover a large share of connected-TV households and reward native code with smooth scrolling, proper video integration, and platform features like Top Shelf. Roku, Tizen, and webOS each need a separate effort in BrightScript or web. Sylvain will tell you whether a given platform is worth a native build, a web app, or skipping for now, based on your audience rather than a desire to bill more days.

Store certification on every platform

Each TV store has its own certification process, from Apple's App Review to Amazon's Fire TV checks and Google's Play requirements. The rules cover everything from remote behavior to content rating and deep links. Having handled App Store and Google Play submissions since 2008, Sylvain prepares builds to pass review and helps respond when a platform pushes back.

Frequently asked questions

What does a TV project cost?

The flat day rate is €500 or $600, remote, with no agency markup. TV projects vary a lot in scope, so I give you a realistic day estimate per platform before we start.

Can you extend our existing TV or mobile app?

Yes. If you already have an iOS or Android codebase, I can add or rework the tvOS or Android TV target and reuse what makes sense. I review the current code before proposing an approach.

Do you build Roku, Tizen, or webOS apps?

My hands-on native work is tvOS, Android TV, and Fire TV. For Roku (BrightScript) and the web-based Tizen and webOS platforms I give architecture guidance and can coordinate, but I am honest that those are not my primary build targets.

How do you handle remote and focus navigation?

I build navigation around the Apple TV focus engine on tvOS and the D-pad focus model on Android TV, then test it on a real remote so focus moves where the viewer expects.

Can you integrate video and DRM into the TV app?

Yes. TV apps are usually video-first, so I wire AVPlayer on tvOS and Media3/ExoPlayer on Android TV with your DRM and license server as part of the same engagement.

Will you help get the app through store certification?

Yes. I prepare each build for the relevant store review, from Apple App Review to Amazon and Google, and help respond if a reviewer raises an issue.
